Train with CDL

Preparing Future Professionals

The Child Development Lab (CDL) at MU welcomes students from across campus and local colleges to train in a hands-on, multidisciplinary environment as they prepare for careers working with young children and families. Dedicated to advancing both education and professional preparation, the CDL supports students from a wide range of academic disciplines—within and beyond early childhood education.

Building skills through practice

Hands-on Experiences

The CDL provides a variety of opportunities to support student learning and professional growth including:

  • Facility tours that introduce students to the classroom setting and resources.
  • Space for observation hours that allow for direct insight into child development and educational practices.
  • Practicum placements where students can apply theory to practice.
  • Research project support that fosters inquiry and discovery.

Feedback for improved practice

Guided Learning Opportunities

Students training in the Child Development Lab (CDL) receive thoughtful, individualized feedback on their interactions with children. This guidance is designed to strengthen practical skills, deepen understanding, and support professional growth. This process helps translate hands-on experience into lasting skills that are valuable across professions that support children and families.
