Introduction

All new staff members and long-term substitutes will be asked to read both staff and parent handbooks. After reading the handbooks, the new staff member shall schedule an appointment with the director for an administrative orientation.

Prior to beginning work, co-teachers will schedule an appointment with the new employee for a classroom orientation. Approximately 30 days later a follow-up appointment will be scheduled.

Resignation

The CDL appreciates a minimum of three months notice if you choose to leave your position.

Grievance Procedures

Please see section 370.010 of the UM Faculty Handbook for Academic Grievance Procedures

Termination

If situations warrant termination, faculty members may either go through the grievance procedures (outlined in 370.010 of the UM Faculty Handbook) or resign immediately without pay.

Health Requirements

A health form must be on file for employees, student teachers, work study students, and volunteers. Yearly tine tests (TB) are required for all employees, students, and volunteers. The Health Department provides tine tests for $2.

Family Care Safety Registry

All staff, students, work study students and volunteers will be screened for child abuse and neglect upon employment. The registry costs $5.

CPR and First-Aid

Every full-time CDL teacher is responsible to be certified in Child CPR and First-Aid (Blue Door Room Staff - Infant and Child CPR) upon employment. The CDL will provide update trainings each year.

If you are unable to attend these scheduled trainings - you will be responsible for securing and paying for your own training. Records of the training must be on file in the CDL office. You have 30 days to secure your own training if you miss the regularly scheduled CDL training.

Food Handlers Permit

All caregivers (substitutes, students, work study students, volunteers) are required to have current food handlers training. Both the University and City of Columbia offer these classes on a regular basis. The schedules are posted on the kitchen door. Records of the training must be on file in the CDL office.
