Red Door Room: School-Age Program

The intent of our program is to encourage and support the development of each child, and to provide a positive alternative for after-school hours that will enhance the child's development.

The Child Development Lab (CDL) School-Age Half-Day Program:

  • Enrolls 24-29 children, kindergarten through third grade
  • Is open before and after school 7:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the school year and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the summer

Following a full day of school curriculum, each child is offered a relaxed atmosphere with the opportunity to choose from his/her own ideas or from planned activities (outdoor or indoor games, art activities, reading, tutoring on homework, cooking activities, field trips, crafts, etc.). Many times messy art activities are planned.

A nutritional snack will be offered upon arrival at the lab before activities begin.

The full days (conference days, spring break, snow days/head days and summer) will be fun and educational. The summer program includes extensive craft activities, swimming, going to the movies, and other field trips. Breakfast, lunch and snack will be served during the all-day program.

Hours of Operation

The program is located in the Red Door Room and operates:

  • Monday - Friday, 7:00 - 9 a.m. and 3:45 - 6 p.m. during the school year
  • 7:00 a.m. - 6 p.m. on conference days, snow days, and during spring and summer break according to the Columbia Public School calendar.

Enrollment priority will be given to children who utilize the program on a 12-month versus summer-only basis.
